Butterflies – Common Sergeant – Athyma perius

DSC_9123-Common-Sargeant

Photographed at the Carleton University “Live” Butterfly exhibit in the Fall of 2010. (Location)

The Common Sargeant is a strong flying butterfly of the Himalayas to the Malay Peninsula and is very different in appearance when seen with wings open since the upper surface is an alternating pattern of black and white with no sign of the ochre coloring of the underwing.
