Heading home – First leg – Staten Island to Poughkeepsie, NY

One of my photography contacts, who lives in the New York area, retired from a position with the parks service, so I thought that it was rather timely that a Parks Service vessel would be arriving at its berth just at the same time as our ferry was arriving at the terminal.

Once our ferry had docked we headed for the subway as another group of school children arrived at the terminal. Our subway trip to the Grand Central station was rather uneventful and we were soon on our Metro-North train heading back to Poughkeepsie.

Coming to New York, I had sat on the river side of the train.  For the return trip, I decided to sit on  the opposite side to see what that might be like. As expected, the view from the land side was more industrial and junky, but it did provide me a nice look at a Bald Eagle watching over a small pond that we padded and I did get to see some of the urban activity as we passed by.

Once we arrived back in Poughkeepsie and found our car in the parking lot, we headed north for some more sightseeing and a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion.
