Breeding Bird Survey 2012 – Beaton Lake Route #258

Breeding Bird Survey 2012 – Beaton Lake Route #258

For a more detailed description of the route, see last year’s post. Breeding Bird Survey 2011 – Beaton Lake #258.

Last year, we had drizzle on this route and this year was no different as the overall conditions began to worsen a few survey points after the above image was taken, so we were forced to omit about 20% of the survey points due to adverse weather conditions. As a result, we were back in White River a bit earlier than planned. When conditions are optimal on this route, I can get out of the car for a photo or two but when the weather is miserable, I need to pay attention to where I pull off the road. Survey or no survey, I want to stay out of the ditch! :-).

After a bit of breakfast/lunch in White River we headed south again. We had decided that, with the unsettled weather that was forecast, staying in a motel in Wawa would be a bit more comfortable than setting up a tent on a damp day.
